I’m always happy when New York shoegaze rockers Asobi Seksu have a new release: they have a big range in a relatively small genre that touches upon elements of J-Pop (yes, really! 2007’s Citrus was awash with quirky pop sensibilities sung in Japanese) to the lilting and introspective works of Hush and their eponymous debut album.
‘Trails’ is a cut from their upcoming new album Fluorescence (out February 15th) – but remixed by art-punk outfit Deerhoof. It’s a typically pretty Asobi Seksu tune, but made just that bit more edgy by the disjointed and downright weird spin that Deerhoof put on it. So a little bit of the best of both bands, and it sounds great!
If you want more versions of ‘Trails’ then you could do a heck of a lot worse than visiting My Old Kentucky Blog where you can hear alternative remixes by Painted Palms and odd-beat group Holy Other. Now that’s value!
