Bjork Does Karaoke, Spreads Hope

6 Jan

I have to thank Consequence of Sound for clicking me on to this one. I’ve been a fan of Bjork for years and despite criticism that her voice is a bit samy and doesn’t really change from album to album, I think there’s more to her than that. Still, on this evidence maybe she’s no good at karaoke.

This was done for “The Voice of the People”, a karaoke marathon held in Reykjavik to raise awareness about the gradual desturction of the Icelandic landscape, something Bjork has felt strongly about for years (her most recent work holds this issue close to its heart). They want to gather 15000 signatures on a petition to make Iceland’s resrouces public. Still, her duet with her partner-in-crime on this subject should give hope to anyone who’s tried to belt out a rendition of any power-ballad or stadium rock song after they’ve had a few. No doubt this one won’t be appearing on her next album…
