Warpaint: Ashes to Ashes

10 Sep

Blissed-out LA girl band Warpaint have released their own version of David Bowie’s 1980 song “Ashes to Ashes”, but put their own little spin on it. You can hear the foundation blocks of Bowie’s original version running through but the band have included their own unique vocal style into the mix, making this version less Tin Man, more Little Red Riding Hood. It works on a new level, but the cover has divided many into two camps: the ones who think that the original has been murdered and those who love this one just as much as the 80s classic. See which camp you fall into:

If you liked that, all the proceeds from the single, and the “We Were So Turned On” Bowie tribute album, are going to the Warchild charity.

I was skeptical when I clicked “play,” but I liked this track a lot. Good call.
