6 Music Update

3 Mar

Well in a huge U-Turn by the BBC, yesterday it was announced that 6 Music isn’t actually saved at all. In fact, it’s going to be axed along with the BBC Asian Network and 25% of the Beeb’s website pages. Now, I’m not going to go on about this for ages – even though I’m really depresed about it – because I want to show you BBC Director General Mark Thompson on Channel 4 News last night talking about the changes. I think you’ll agree that what he has to say just isn’t satisfactory if you click on the link below and watch the video:

So yeah, that’s more money for kids’ stuff and TV drama but here’s the thing: kids have CBBC on weekday afternoons, CBeebies and CBBC channels and more still on early mornings and weekday mornings on the Beeb. As for TV drama, well! The Beeb haven’t made a good TV drama in ages and the only ones that I watch on there are American imports like Mad Men and Nurse Jackie. If only the Beeb made such brilliant series then I might be inclined to forgive them.

Oh, 6 Music, we will miss you when you get switched off next year. Until then, enjoy it while you can!

Hopefully the beeb will have a re-think about 6 Music in the wake of the outcry over its proposed scrapping: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8546696.stm

I watched the Mark Thompson interview last night – he didn’t come out of it very well, did he? I almost felt sorry for the guy… Almost.
